CompassOne
Launch Video
Client: Blackpoint Cyber
Storyboarded, Designed, Animated, Edited: Patrick Wilson
This video was one of the most demanding and formative projects of my career. I was initially given one month to turn a very rough script into a launch video that would serve as the cornerstone of Blackpoint’s new platform, CompassOne. That month quickly collapsed—first to three weeks as multiple teams debated the script, then to two weeks while voiceover approval stalled, and finally to one week as the Product team redesigned the UI, fundamentally changing key parts of the script.
In the end, most of the video was completed over three days of late nights leading up to launch. I finished the first version at 3:00 a.m. and boarded a 6:00 a.m. flight to San Francisco for RSAC, where Blackpoint planned to announce the platform.
The following day, I was added to a thread with several members of the C-suite who decided the video would not be shown due to unresolved discussions about whether the company intended to target Enterprise customers in addition to MSPs. This was a conversation that should have happened before the script was approved—and certainly before launch day for a platform over a year in the making.
In many ways, this video was a microcosm of the platform launch itself, which was plagued by other issues I won’t detail here.
The video is not perfect. It is a true v1 and never reached a full round of edits or revisions. Some moments move too quickly; others linger too long. Even so, it is a project I am deeply proud of—a clear demonstration of my ability to deliver strong work under extreme pressure and unforgiving deadlines.
Very early storyboarding.
Designed assets for the "Alert Overload" scene.
